Prayers At Sea

Quick update! Just a repost from my Instagram feed.

At one point, the waves changed. Gone were the glassy walls we were riding just moments ago and they were replaced with steep and heavy slabs that broke inconsistently. The rivermouth rushed wildly, creating a cold and quick rip out to sea.

Just as panic started to rise up from my throat, I unknowingly placed both my hands on my board and saw this.

Seeing my tattoo sent a ripple of renewed courage through my spine and I knew that no matter how scary things started to seem, I was going to be alright.

My friend, Rai, took this picture when the tattoo was new and it has better healed now, the same way it heals me when I start to feel afraid.

I am grateful for all things that teach my body how to pray.
